Adhaalath party appeals against restoring ties with Israel

The Adhaalath Party has called on the government to abandon plans to restore diplomatic relations with Israel.

In a press release published yesterday, the party, a member of the coalition government, said the decision went against the “pulse of the people” and would be carried out without their consent.

“This is because Israel is a country that exists outside international bounds,” the statement reads. “Because Israel is challenging the entire world and because it has disregarded hundreds of UN resolutions and because it does not respect UN orders...Israel has forced the Palestinian people out of their homeland and robbed them of their possessions.”

The party adds that the Maldives has established a foothold in the international community as a burgeoning democracy and as an opponent of undemocratic practices of other countries.

“The Adhaalath Party regrets the decision to establish ties with a country such as Israel that has been accused of humanitarian violations,” it continues.

Honestly, WTF is wrong with Adhaalath jerks!!
btw i find it extremely hilarious how Adhaalath rhymes with Aalaathun.. lol

Two animators of satire show arrested.. well you got to arrest someone.. not?

The 25-minute animation, which has been broadcast by VTV every Friday at 10pm since 2007, parodies the Maldivian political landscape, comparing the country to a land of birds.

It includes caricatures of both incumbent President Mohamed Nasheed and the former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom as two birds named Ayya and Zaki respectively.

Last month, the show pulled the caricature of President Mohamed Nasheed following a request from private broadcaster VTV. But, the character returned this month.

At the time, Mohamed Zuhair, president’s office press secretary, told Minivan news the president did not support the removal of the character. “In fact, he told me this morning that he does not have any problem with the show,” he said.

Yamin said the animators have not been in Male’ that long and did not know that it was illegal to draw the MNDF building.

“I am 100 per cent sure the government has nothing to do with this,” he said. “It’s all just a misunderstanding.”
